Dear students,
As you are undoubtedly aware, the majority of schools in the U.S.A. will likely have closed within the next week or so, if they haven't already. In most cases, we expect that you will be able to continue your studies online. In some communities, the local high schools have made the decision to close their facilities for the rest of the semester. In these cases, the high schools expect all of their students, including exchange students like you, to finish the year via their online classes.
At this time, we are not asking or requiring SHARE! students to return home early. However, if the school program has indeed been moved online for the rest of the school year, you may consider returning home and finishing your online schooling from your home country. It's become very important for everyone to physically isolate during this time, and it's likely you won't be allowed to hang out with groups of friends outside your host family's home. Depending on your host family's schedule, you may find yourself without much social interaction.
What should you do to decide and prepare:
Talk with your Exchange Program Coordinator and your local high school to find out if finishing the semester online, from your home country, is an option.
If so, and you would like to return home immediately, reach out to your Exchange Program Coordinator to request and confirm flights.
If your local high school has announced limited time closures 2-4 weeks, but you would still prefer to return home early, reach out to your Exchange Program Coordinator and your local high school to find out if you will have the option to complete the year online.
As always, your health and safety are our biggest priority. Please reach out to your Exchange Program Coordinator with any questions or concerns. Stay safe, wash your hands and stay isolated!
We'll get each other through this,
Laura Smrcka
