Important information about coverage as it relates to COVID-19

With the recent assessment by the World Health Organization that the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) can be characterized as a pandemic, GBG wants to assure you that our priority is the health and well-being of our insured members, including the students they serve.

During this time, we realize schools, organizations, families, and the students themselves all have questions about coverage as it relates to COVID-19, and they are coming to you for answers. While specifics about coverage must be considered on a case-by-case/policy-by-policy basis, we want to share the following with you as general guidelines:

Am I covered if I’m diagnosed with COVID-19 while in the United States?

Healthcare benefits and restrictions will apply as normal if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 while in the United States. Your coverage is based on your Schedule of Benefits as outlined in your policy, and COVID-19 will be treated as any other illness or injury.

Will I have to pay out-of-pocket to be tested for COVID-19?

For students in the United States under a GBG policy that has a duration of six months or longer, GBG has decided to waive all cost-sharing — including copays and deductibles — for COVID-19 diagnostic testing. If a student’s policy is for less than six months, please contact agentsupport@gbg.com to discuss.

Am I covered if I’m traveling into the United States for an educational or J- visa sponsored program and am diagnosed with COVID-19 while in the United States?Healthcare benefits and restrictions will apply as normal if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 while in the United States. Your coverage is based on your Schedule of Benefits as outlined in your policy, and COVID-19 will be treated as any other illness or injury.

If you or your members have specific questions regarding their policies, please have them contact GBG Assist at gbgassist@gbg.com.

For general health advice and current status of COVID-19, refer to the World Health Organization website: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel- coronavirus-2019.

We will continue to follow the declarations of the World Health Organization and keep you updated as conditions shift.

  • Does the insurance cover an infection with the coronavirus?

Fever, cough, signs of corona infection? You can rest assured. With PROTRIP-WORLD's insurance cover, you don’t need to fear high medical costs. The medical treatment of the corona virus infection is covered. In addition, PROTRIP-WORLD includes unlimited coverage for medical expenses should you be forced to stay abroad for a longer period of time due to the infection.
