Fix yourself a cup of tea, curl up on the couch, and take some time to check out what our 2016 Work & Travel college exchange students (from Ukraine, Jamaica, Serbia, Czechia, Slovakia, China and Thailand) had to say about their time in the U.S. last summer...
Did you learn anything new about yourself?
Oh...It was a great experience for me, even trial. I've never thought, I can work as a housekeeper. I chose this position intentionally. During this 2 months I learn a lot, I became older, more responsible and tried new life without parents, friends who always support me, who always help me. But now, I'm satisfied. Here I find a lot of new friends from different countries, and it's hard for me to anderstand that soon we will part. This programm help me to see the world from another side.
I learn a lot of things .First one is how to be independent .I learn how to cook and how to live alone so far from my country .I meet with a lot of peoples from every where .I really made a new friendships i and i like this place and this summer .I hope to be here again next year.
I figured out that I can take care about myself by my own. Of cause, i have learn to live in US and how to live in another culture and its too different like food, traditional that make me know others that i never face and also make me get a lot of exprience ,so that teach me more
Thanks to the housekeeping, I've mastered not only housekeeping also leading a team.
As a young lady and an embassidor for Jamaica, as I get older I always learn something new about myself. Well technically, I have always been the type of person who found an interest in meeting new people everywhere I go. Hence, the US is no different. I've learned more on working well with other persons from different state, to countries all over the world and sharpened my awareness on learning more about other people's culture and background. This is a side of me that will continue to grow as I get older.
yes, i have changed a lot. meanwhile i can cook foods by myself and taste different kinds of food from my friends. and i have improved my oral English.
Yeap, I got to know everyone is special, Just smile for everyday, you are gonna be the lucky one. At MacDonalds, smile to the customers and smile to the workmates, then, I would have a happy day. And smile more, like it is gonna be easier to make more friends. If you smile, you would affect the people around you, and they would feel relax with you. Try to be nice to others, they are gonna be nice to you. So just smile more, everything is gonna be alright.
Yes, sure! I learnd new culture , i tried new kitchen , here is very popular seefood(i like seefoog too). I seen big city, it very intresting walkin in big city!
I think after I came here I can know myself better than before. I have known that how strong I am. How brave I am. And I think I have more confident before I came here. I have met a lot of new things here but how surpise I can face them confidently. Before I was a shy girl. But, now I think I'm really confident girl. Because I came here, it make me really know myself better than before.
I learn to live by yourself without my parents and learn to ask helping from people more, I learn to cook something new from regional ingredient and learn to make friends from different nationality. : )
I learnt that I can be kinder and nicer to people I dont like because it is a good thing. I am not a very calm person and I get frustrated very easily. I learnt that if people are nicer to each other everything feels better.
one of my biggest challenge was having some other the persons who I worked closely amongst, was getting them to understand what I truly meant when I was directing them what to do having that I became a team lead. so I had to now approach things differently and reconstruct my statement for us to have a better relationship.
First of all this job helps me to improve my English. It's helps me to work in a team. Respect and rely each member of the team.
I learn to how to control myself when I'm feeling upset with something and more patience more than I expected. It's give me many things, such as being punctual, responsible and being able to solve an unexpected problem. Those kind of thing made me grow up and methodically thoughtful.
Concentration is very important at work also how to get along with people you dont like or people who don't like you theese things can help me in future with other jobs that I will have the experience that I am getting here in US I think its helping me because I am working with people from different nationalists and I am learning stuff about all kinds of things
Yes I did. I realised how much I was able to work under pressure in the kitchen and at the same time working well with my fellow work mates.
I think, I've known myself better than before from staying here. I've to live and decide everything by myself. So, it make me know that what I can do good and somethings i can't do very well then I've to be cautious on those things.
Yes, I think I am brave and I did not know about myself. And I am also talkative and sociable and I did not know that.
Yes, i found out that i am very easy-going person i met a lot new friends, also i like my job at restaurant business like a waitress, so i think it will be a great idea to open my own restaurant in Ukraine))))
Yes i did. I learnt that i posses the potential to become a very effective person in the kitchen. I have learnt many skills and trades in the culinary field and i must say that from my recent experience, it may be a field that i may consider. I also learnt that I can cope well under pressure and have the ability to lead effectively.
Yes, I persuaded what I can live in other country, communicate with people of different nationalities, live away from my family. I understood what I wanna to visit more countries and learn a lot of new but also I understood what my country it's very beautiful place in the world where I wanna live all my life.
Of course, I became more responsible, more organized, get to know how to work in team.
Yes, I did. USA it is a beautiful country wich have different, interesting customs and traditional. Every day I learn something new it's can be new words or I met interesting people or I visited exsited place. Everything what I saw in USA was new for me. People, which live here very friendly, open and they help u if u need it. I am very glad it was the best summer in my life.
Yes, i have a great experience with new friends, colleagues. They are from different countries. When you speak with a lot of people from different places you learning something new for yourself. This experience helped me to grow up, accept something new.
I lean that anything I put mine to I can do and also learn that I have the strength and work harder that I think I can
yes,of course. when i joined work and travel program. i get more new experience such as meet new friend, learn new idea from other and the important things is i learn something new about myself. I joined work and travel by myself and i go alone that make me know I am stronger than i think and make me don’t limit myself because You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve. if i can go to joined work and travel program again, i will :-) thanks.
Yes i did. I learn how to work in team and many other things about myself and my personality. It was a nice experience to work in USA.
I can take care of myself now.I have the experiences of the real working world.I grew up.Thank to working and travel that make me open my mind and eyes.I am so glad .
Yes I have learn a lot about my self. For the last three years I have been traveling on J1 programs and this year is the first I have come to learn so much about my self.
Secondly I also learn to manage my time. Time is very important to Americans and when your working for them are with them you have to always ensure to be on time. This has taught me that time is money and money is time. Most Jamaicans are always late for most occasion, so this I will bring back to my country and practice in my daily life to always be on time no matter what.
Yes, I did . Before I came here I never clean my room , home or clothes by myself but I came here in housekeeping position that sure I have to clean and I think it hard or not? I can do or can't ? maybe I will home sick . First day i start work I'm very scraed Because everything new for me I don't know How is this work , How people here but everybody very kind to me make me feel warm and safe. everything very fair and they don't call me employee but they call me kid or student and they do like that too. I feel I very lucky to be here. Everything I think I can't do or can't endure ,but Now I can do! I can make the bed king or queen size by myself , I can clean toilet , I can fix clog toilet. I have problem with russian student I cry many times but It make me strong 'cause I never seen bad people like this before If I can pass this time in my life I will be stronger.
What surprised you about U.S. people?
What surprised me the most about US people in the area which I am is that most if not all the people smoke. Also, everyone drives. It is totally different from Jamaica. I have not seen any taxis either as a mode of transportation. What have me a culture shock was how offended these people get it you call them fat :). Most importantly, Americans are very enthused about thier independence.
I was quite suprised that people here don't say hello or hi as most as in Europe. After few weeks I realized that when people ask 'How are you?' they don't really care how are you and they are just sayin 'Hello'.
They are more open and honest to strangers than people I am use to it. I like it.
I am really surprised because of kindness of U.S. people. They always smile to each other, always are ready to help everyone ( even to unknown person). I think that is very good quality. It makes people more happy because they feel support of everyone (neighbors, friends, coworkers and even unknown people). When i will come back to my country i will try to be as friendly to everyone as U.S. citizens are.
They are very very friendly. They want to help you always.
I was surprised, cause everybody greet you by using :"Hello, how are you?"
People here very kind and friendly, americans always ready to help you.
They are always smiling and say hi to each person even when they don't know them. They don't care about cooking at home, they like to hang out with friends. They like parties, they like to have a fun. And of course they are so so so friendly:)
First of all I was suprised that all americans are so nice and polite. It was a plessure to speak with them. Different people - different states, but all are polite. If you need help - they will help you. I began to do like americans, I mean to be polite like them. Next - they are all very responsible. If they have to do job, they will do it in super correct way without exception. I was lazy. But USA has changed me and my attitude for job. I am happy for being here. It was a plessure for me.
The people here are so kind and loving. Before I arrived, I was told of the strong racism in the country, however, I am yet to see this. The folks here are so friendly that they would be passing in a car and slow down just to wave. I am thankful that I was here to see the beautiful side of Americans. This was really not expected.
I found that everybody in America just do what they real like, they don't care about others how to say or look upon them, they just choose what they want. And they are very outgoing, they are easy to make friends. They are very dependent. Many people just make a life by themselves from13 or 14.They are very good-hearted.
I was surprised that people are not afraid to express thair opinions, to express themselves. They are open to dialogue, welcoming and friendly. Interesting, they mainly try to see only good in you. This I like the most. I like at work when people are interested in my origins, asked about my country and about my impressions of America
They are so friendly. Even the strangers will greet to you when you met them on the road. And they are so passionate to work. Responsible and serious.
I was surprised that U. S. people are very friendly, helpful and easy going. It is very simple and cool to work with Americans.
When I have opportunity to live in U.S., there are many things make me surprised such as people in U.S., they are friendly and kind because every times that I walk around my city (Keystone,South Dakota) to go to somewhere, the people around here will say " Hi " to me even if they didn't know me that make me surprised because In Thailand about the people, they didn't say " Hi " to stranger person but In U.S. they don't do that and they don't care who are you? Just say hi and smile! So this thing is make me impressive and happy every times that I live here :)
The thing that surprised me the most about Americans was how friendly and open-minded people they are. The amount of people you can talk to, and find some mutual interest to talk about - just sitting on the lifeguard chair, is, to be honest, very unusual for a "simple European". I will definitely consider to come back to America the next summer, just to meet these sweet people that offer you to stay in their house in the bad weather, even though they barely know you, or drive you around the place just to show you where to buy what things for the best price, where is the good movie theater and where to go on a pizza.
They are very friendly even we don't know each other. Also, they will give me fully understanding when I make mistakes. What's more they are willing to help and respect others.
Americans and Ukrainians have very different personality. We are very different. It was very surprising from my first day when every person on my way to work was smiling to me with question "hello, how are you today?" Every person wanted to meet me. And since then I realized that Americans are very friendly people and a big smile on their face on my way to work makes my day:)
The people in the United States of America are very different than in my country. They are more friendly, polite and maybe even happier. I worked on the beach as beach attendant and my first day was really hard, but american kid helped me with everything. In Ukraine it won't happen.
I have learned that U.S. people are different as other countries. But people in Okoboji, Iowa is really good. They are so nice. When I ride a bike pass through them they always say hi. They are ready to help. People in where I work are good also. I'm happy everyday I work.
They tell "hello how are you " even to unknown people)
I like people here, they are so nice and help me all the times. But there are some people are not nice such as homless they always get drunk and talked dirty so I really did not like that. I'm so happy with my owner, his wife, front manager at the hotel that I'm working they are so kindness.
I met Thai people at here that made me feel good and so happy.
Americans are very very different , different from our Ukrainians for example . They are more polite , they always try to say 'please', 'thank you ', 'sorry', they always smile. Our people don't care about that . What is more Americans always try to help if they can. But not everything is so good. A lot of people are very rude, impolite and impatient, but I think that such people are everywhere . One more thing that is different from Europieans that here people have very strict rules , laws and no corruption at all. Police is working really good here. Our landlord is also very good person very helpful and generous . So that these are the details that I noticed in Amerians while living here .
People in United States are very kind and friendly. About two months ago me and my friends went to Orlando than to Kelly Park. We met many peolpe which hepled us and gave us advices about our route there. But in Kelly Park we met a family which lived not far from that place. We had a nice conversation and then they offered to have a boat trip and after that they invited us to their house. We were very glad to meet this people. I have never met such a kind and friendly people in Ukraine. It was a nice trip.
I want to say that Americans are completely different from Ukrainians. Firstly, they are very friendly and ready to help you. They always have a smile. Also I was surprised that they really enjoy their lives.
when i first came here, how amazing that i am really go aboard.i think everthing is new, many gays come different contry and have different colors of skin,it made me konw i have to use different chat style to talk with each other. the most made me surprised that most people are polite, they usually say hi with a smile.
I was surprised how people in America are very open, kind and tolerant. They surprised me their phrases "how are you, how you doing" after greeting, it is not usually in Czech Republic. I like that people in USA relate small talk even if they do not know each other The are very tolerant to my level of English, which is not the best, but they do not laught at me and instead they try to help me.
A was surprised that everyone want to help me. all U.S people is super nice and always smile to each other. they never afraid to spend their time for you to help with something. really sincere and honest people. one my friend was lost his bookbag with documents and some stuff. some people found it and did everyhing to help him. they found him on facebook and sent back bookbag to him.. really friendly people
I was surprised that american people are so different from ukrainian. Americans are more opened and always smiling to other. It`s really exited me that even when i were tired or sad walking in the street americans asked me about my mood if everything is fine with me. It`s so nice when somebody cares about you. I really like working with them, they always joking and laughing with you like with the best friend. Besides, they are very honest and kind with foreigners.
I was struck by many Americans. Americans generally different mentality. They are always smiling and friendly, willing to help. I especially liked volunteers j1 cafe. But it was a lot for me to understand. People with patterned hair is the norm for them or the entire body in tattoos. In fact, I am very happy that I had the experience in dealing with the Americans. I hope this is not my last program "Work & Travel".
There are a many kind of different people here. Some nice some weird some bad
But the best thing that I like about the people here is being polite and everything always lady first. I'm pretty impress about this.
I was really surprised at they attitude to life. Americans are very kind and cheerful people. It`s very sport nation. Even 70-year-old lady running in the morning and it is exiting. They always smiling to others and wishing good day. Even when you are in a bad mood, walking in the street they asked if everything OK with you. Besides, americans are always ready to help when necessary.
Every nation is unique and the USA is not an exeption. Here live people who moved from different countries and native americans.I was surprised when strangers wanted to help you when you needed. These people always smile and bring you a little part of happiness evey day.Americans are very friendly and what surprised me the most about them is the fact that they want to learn about you more and tell you different stories about their lives as if you were there friends for a long time.I wish our people were so kind and delightful with tmem sa americans are.
what surprised me about U.S. people is their high interest and love for my culture.
What surprised me about U.S people is how respectful, mannerable and helpful they are. Most persons i came in contact with including children always display one or all of the above adjectives. These people would see me coming towards a door and open it for me especially if i have bags. Whenever they are addressing me they use words like "mom." Another thing, they always give a smile to whoever they pass or come in contact with. They will also say " have a nice day, enjoy your day or some other encouraging words that put a smile on my face, even if i am having a bad day. I am pleased with their attitude as it relates to helping, respecting and displaying good manners to people.
• In United States I met a lot of new people and new friends. People here are very friendly and easy going. They are ready to help you every second. In Miami there are a lot of people from different parts of USA and of the World in general, but everyone likes each other, everyone is so peaceful and it's amazing. Moreover, they are really hardworking and they work in a team. So I felt myself a part of the team from the first day on my job.
What was the best part of your job, and why?
I consider as the best part of my job dealing with international people from all over the world. I also love the job of being the lifeguard because of staying outside, meeting new people and practising my english skills.
The best part of my job was communication with people, because in Miami Beach you meet people from all around the world, it's unique experience. You can see how they look on this world, how they spend their time, each customer can change your way of thinking a little bit. All of them speak with different accents and it's also great was to learn the language.
The best part of my job was to communicate with people.I improved my level of language, and bring joy to people was painfully pleasant. When I brought the order I always smiled and people smiled to me too and little kids were very happy to get their dish ..this was the best !!
The best part of my job were the crew and the people that i worked with. The manager was amazingly kind, generous and strict. I like her, because i am the same. The crew and the people that i work with taught me a lot of new stuff and show me a lot of new places.
The best part of my job is speaking to the customers and telling them about Jamaica. I have encouraged them all to visit Jamaica.
The best part of my job is the department that i work in, which is the unloading and water area. thanks especially to the water department, i am able to meet a lot of people and interact with them. i have learn so much about Americans and the way they interact with non-US citizen especially Jamaican. apart from the heat and the change of apartments it is a wonderful experience for me.
The best part of my job is getting to know new colleague, new experience and colleague personalities, that some of them had been nice to me, but some of them are just make me uncomfortable to be in that work place. So these made me change my mind, before I came to US, I though that working in the US is pretty fun and comfortable but it's not, it's just feel like some of them are insulting at me and my friend or just fake, but the good thing is
some of them are nice and always helping us. So another best part working here is, I got a lot of experience that help me think a lot before I go to work or travel somewhere else.
It is hard to tell exactly what the best part is. I guess it is the place itself. It is my second year here, in okoboji iowa, but I can not explain how big my love to this place is. The best part is just to be in this building, no matter what you do here. The best part is to see customers from the previous year, no matter they leave good tips or not. The best part is to listen to chef no matter you can understand him or not.
I'm meeting very nice people all the time. lots of young people, are working with me and we are having a fun time afterwok.
The best part of my job is that I met a lot of new people at my swimming pool. They told me so many things about their life, culture and holidays. I think that this is the best part, because I have chance to meet different people and also practice my English level and improve it. We were hanging out with some of the people of my pool and we went to bowling together.
for me, it is very fortune to make foreign friends who always help me to overcome some misunderstanding events. Cindy takes us to Yellowstone..so the best thing is that i met so many friendly parters. i am so lucky.
The best part of my job is talking with customers, it's very interesting and cool. During the day you can meet 30-40 unique persons, learn something new about usual American life, people habits, how they like to work and rest. You can meet guys from different parts of US and all over the world.
The best part of my job at Walmart as a cashier was interacting with customer... I was able to have small conversations with different individuals who were from different cultures.
I was able to understand customer service to its depth and understand how to appreciate different people from different walks of life.
Being a cashier helps me to understand the different foods. I now understand the food type different culture intake such as Spanish ,Mexican,American and so on.
I really enjoy working as a cashier because of the cultural experience I have gained...
I like two parts of my job. The first one is a team work, where everyone supports and helps each other. The second part is communication with guests. Every day I meet different people from different parts of the world. They all are different but everybody is very friendly and kind with me. I love my job and my team and I will miss them very much.
The best part?) The best part its pay chek time :)
First of all, I want to tell you that I'm very like my job. Work on a beach brought me new experiece and an unforgettable experience. A lot of guys from beach atendents became my friend. Every day I talked with customers and practiceв my english, talked with them about america and her culture, so I leaned about America. The best event was a pizza party. We had good entertainment there, free pizza, different games and comunication with our manegers. I'm vary happy that I had so good job.
The best Part of my job is that I'm doing what I enjoy so it makes everyday wonderful. I enjoy the rush (busy periods) I live for the adrenaline. I love working on the line in my kitchen.
The best part of my job is to meet new people(customers)all the time and be friends with some of them because my position is at a cashier and drive-thru at McDonald's. It's so good to working here and talk to people. And I felt happy when I smiled at them and they smile back to me. But sometimes I felt down because I've met a grumpy customer but all I could do was smile to them. But I always think in a positive way that the experience like this will make me calm, endure and be an adult. I never thought that this position would make me so happy like this. Its like a new and great experience for me. I wish I could do something like this again if i have a chance:)
the best part of my job is meeting with many different people and socialize with my customer, cause I make friends.
I have become a barista and learnt how to make coffees and sandwiches. I love my job .I love meeting new people, great work atmosphere and nice co-workers.
I'm improving my English every day)I'm having a lot of new friends
The best part of my job is my lovely co-worker because they are all good to me. They treat me so good like they are my family. Even when I do something wrong they never complain me but they just tell me how to make it right in the next time. Moreover, they always willing help me to do my task.
The best part of my job was speaking with clients. I got to know people from all over the United States, all those accents and stories. And from talking with them I got more confident and started talking more and more with people. That got me to the point where I can speak freely with anyone here. That makes me really glad. Thanks for that opportunity.
The best part of my job was working with my co-workers, in very good atmosphere. I made a lot of friends on my work, the same beach attendants as me, managers and a lot of other people who are working for Bouche Brothers. Those people taught me how to provide perfect customer service and I liked to help customers with everything. But the most good moment was when my manager gave me a raise from beach attendant to a captaion, in front of all Lummus Park workers, and everybody congratulated me with this. The first day of work was very and very difficult for me. Like I started to think: " Oh my god , I have to work here whole summer". After some weeks I get used to. And that's for sure one of the best experience in my life. Our beach team is perfect. Everybody help each other. Now it become pleasure to work on the beach. Of course it is difficult now too but when you such a good time work becomes much more easier. I love our beach team.
Speak with new people.Every day I improv my english.I got more new information for me about US.I meet more realy good and helpful people. And first time I soo what is it strong storm when all chairs on the pool were under the water:)
The fact that I had the opportunity to talk to new people everyday and gain alot of experience. I also improved alot on my English by having conversations with the customers and learnt alot about the United States of America and the different states and cultural background.
The best part of my job was a lot of americans and foreign students coworkers. I think that it was true culture exchange!! A lot of fun and traveling with them. They really did my summer. My new american friends teach me how to play football and do motocross! (it was AMAZING) Also my job include speaking with native speaks (customers). From them I learn a lot about U.S. and want to see much more places as could..
The best part of this job is to meet new people, the members of the club, very nice people, to practice language with them because when you work as a waiter and you serve such the very honorable people you can not make any mistake and you must show all the best in your personality, no fear, you must do everything correct and I can feel that I'm getting better and better with every day and it's the best part of my job.
I'm a housekeeping in Quallity Inn Hotel at Marietta , Ohio . The best part of my job that I always meet the new people and service guess all day . My responsible are clean the room , solve the customer problem as much as I can . This job makes me carefully and concentrate about everything that I have to do .
I had the chance to practice English because my position is a waitor in Thai restaurant. Therefore,my goal was successful to join this program. Moreover, I had chance to work with other people that improve my connection skill
When i spoke with people, my friends from our community on my pool and also when i could swimmining on my pool.
The best part of my job is meeting people from all over. Its my first time as cashier. Experience of a lifetime
The best part of my job was meeting new people. It helped me to get to know the way americans live, their preferences and the way they see this world. And I really enjoyed small talks with customers while i was working at Dunkin Donuts. One of my purpose of visiting USA was getting aquainted with american lifestyle, and this job fully satisfied my expectations.
Contact with people. Americans are very open, they always tell me stories about their trips and life at all
The best I like in my job as beach attendent is communication with people. There are so many different people fom different countries. It is very interesting to talk with them about everything. They always smile and make a good mood for me. I have met many americans
which were in Ukraine. And know a lot of my country. Some of them left theirs phone numbers. Some told that want to meet again.
I have been working as beach attendant in Miami Beach. It was very hard to get used to this job. Every day you work with other guys. I realised that I need to show to my manager, what I got. So, I have been working hard and I was good in communication with clients. I got a good reputation. Becuase of renovation, my hotel was closed. The best what happened was that only me and one more Ukrainian guy continued working at the same property instead of other guys. And I spent all the time with my manager and every day he has been telling me a lot of things about the USA. After this period of time, I got know a lot about the USA citizens and now I know a good approach to communicating with them. Afer the hotel renovation, all guys came back and we started working as a team. And even me, Ukrainian guy, was the main person in the team and almost manager!
Exectly work with people, take theirs orders, talk with them.
The best part of my job are the people that i work with, they are fun to be around which makes my job much easier. Meeting and talking to new people everyday is fun and i get to tell them about where i come from and vice versa. This experience will be imprinted in my memory for sure.
The best part of my job was that I made a lot of new friends from different countries. They are really good and friendly people. And also I am happy that I have met such a good managers as Nicki and Julia. Also I have got new experience that will help me in the future. And having free donuts and coffee everyday was amazing.
From the first day until now I am working on register in dunkin donuts I Communicate with many people. A lot of people praised my accent and my level of language. I really learned a lot and now I can do delicious coffee and sandwiches but the best part of my job that is all I can eat free. My manager Nikki extremely nice person really cares about us. We even got free bicycles to get to the Job
I actually get a wonderful and valuable experience that will help me in the future.
The best part of my job was getting to talk to a lot of people from all the different states of America and even other countries. I work at the register so I always get a chance to communicate with people and it makes me improve my English and communixation skillls in general. I have also learned how to stay calm in difficult and stressful situations and manage my feelings wisely. I hope that the skillls that I have aquired will help me in the future. Also I can say that one of the best parts of my job is having good relationship with my coworkers whom I will stay in touch with forever.
My friend work with me. They so good they always help me when I have problems. and my maneger he is good too.
Working in an environment which comprise of various nationalities is always something that interest me; for me the best part of my job is having persons from various nations working with. This is so because it allows for me to learn more about other countries culture and how they socialize. Working with persons from all over the world allows me to get a deeper understand of how various nations/people deal with conflict, how they socialize (have fun), the type of food they consume , policies that govern the operation of their countries and a plethora of others things. Also working with these people gave me the chance to add to my socializing and communication skills. Learning new languages also was one of the best part of my job, for while working i have taught a few students basic greetings in my language and they also have taught me few things too in their language ( such as : hello how are you in Ukraine is "Pryvit yak ty?" & in Macedonia it is "Zdravo kako si?" ) . These languages I wasn't exposed to them previously and because of my job i was able to know this. Also working with these people from various countries displayed to me various ways that people get tasks done within the working world.
The best part of my job was a lot of communication wiht American people, who are very kind and friendly, they always ask me something about Ukraine, and about our lifestyle. That helped me to improve my communication English skilles. And I knew a lot about theirs lifestyle and entertainment.
This summer I work on the beach . My duties are renting beach stuff and setting it for people. But the best part of my job is chating with customers , it realy helps me to improve my English and get cultural exchange. Also it's a great opporunity to spend a lot of time near the ocean and get a good suntan. I like this job.

Being a cashier at Tops market has been an unforgettable experience. What I love most about my job is that I meet a lot of people from all around the world. Some of these places its the first I'm hearing about them. Every day I learn something new, like for instance, the meaning of my name. A customer came through my checkout line once and said, " you have a beautiful name Shanice . Do you know the meaning of it? " I told him no. He then research it on his phone and said," your name come from Hebrew and it means God is merciful." That really made my day. Being a cashier you learn more each day and become more experience. I really love this job and I have enjoyed every single bit of it. Thanks to ERDT.
the best part of my job was coffee. I drink it as much as I want for free, also I tried different types of latte, smoothie, coolatta. I tried a lot of donuts.
I met a lot of really nice people from different countries, from Ukraine too. The best part of my job is new experience. Everyday is different and I like it. When it`s hot, you always can go in pool. Everyday you meet new people, new friends. It`s very easy job. So I satisfied that I`m here) Thank you

The best part of my job it's people. They very kind and always want to help you. I'm very happy that I worked here whole summer, because I find really good friends and i never forget this summer.
The best part of my job was meeting and socializing with different people. This is because I met alot of people from different races. Some are very kind and some are mean. I realized that we are all the same (human). I like to meet new people and getting to know them was actually the best part. I've learnt that you are to never judge someone by his or her appearance because you will be fooled. I enjoyed working with everyone whom I worked it. I must say this was a great experience for me and for the most part I enjoy meeting new people because I got to know other people's perspective and what they are made up of.
At all job was something new for me and very interesting. Always comunicate with different people, make new friends. The team workers are also good, friendly. And it will be not good to not remember about the food in hotel))))
The best part of the job is meeting new friends from different countries and learning about their culture.
One of the most intriguing part of interacting with them is learning their language. Furthermore, dealing with the guess and customers proves to be challenging at time because of their accent . So it took me a little time to adjust. Overall, the experience is a great one.
The best part of my job is communicating with people, native speakers of course)because I a'm a cashier,so I do it every single day,and doing this I improve my language skills and get new experience)

What I liked most about working as a lifeguard for Aquasafe was meeting and communicating with lots of different people. Learning their cultures and sharing mine with them was very interesting. From small children to elderly people, everyone had something to share and add to my collection of memories from the summer, which surely is and will be one of the best of my life.
The best part of my job were my managers at Soho Beach House. They're really cool and ready to listen to you and help. Without them , probably, it wouldn't be so easy.
The best part of my job was serving the customers, because they're friendly and are interested to know where I'm from. Some people say they love my accent.
This summer I worked as a salesperson and I really liked my job. Every day you meet a lot of people from different parts of USA and different countries. You can hear their accents and that's the best way to improve your English. Now I know how to make sales and how to make people buy something. You become a psychologist who should know exactly what to say and how to break the wall between you and customer. Working on a boardwalk is a pleasure. While waiting for the customers you can look at the ocean and enjoy the breeze. This summer was unforgettable and I'm so sad that it's my last year of studying so I can't apply next year. But it was great experience that will help me in my future profession. Thank you for such opportunity!
What was the most unique experience you had in the U.S.?

I really improvedon't my English. Other students which one went with friends spoke in Ukrainian language most of time.I spoke in English all the time, everywhere. My roommate was from USA. Nice girl Savannah. She helped my with English a lot. She corrected me all the time when I made mistakes. At my job I worked with Americans and Philipinas. We had a lot of fun. Also I went to traveling. In Seward, Home, Homer, Anchorage, Palmer, Wasilla, Goodwood. It was amazing. But the most beautiful place it was Denali. It was unreal. I saw Denali mountain. It was very sunny. I saw grizzly, black bear, moose and a lot of other animals. And I think that I get more experience than other students which one went with friends :) I am happy about this. I also if you go by yourself you are more independent. You make your plans as you want ( for traveling and spending free time )
I got the glimpsed the president of United State Of America.
my unique experience here in the USA can`t be summed up in one story I`m grateful that I`m here and I had all these crazy little moments of fun spend with amazing people and the little things like the sun shining on my skin and being surrounded by the ocean coming home with sand in my hair chasing bunnies and deers in my hood, the people are good, had the chance of going places I collected a lot of good memories and I`m looking for more because summer is not over yet and I have made my travel plans

I've really enjoyed my summer in Ocean City, Maryland. I got to try crab cakes for the first time at Shenanigans on the Boardwalk, they were delicious. I had the opportunity to visit Rehoboth Beach to shop with my friend, I also got to travel to New York City for the day and see many of the attractions New York had to offer.
Visiting the Zion National Park. It was rather an amazing experience. The sight seeing of it all was breathtaking. Bryce Utah in general is a wonderful place to work because of the many attractions that it has. Zion Park has two tunnels one of which is very dark a little scary but they advise us to use the car light. Most students experience I don't think would some up to mine because many I think are working at local places that people are already familiar with.

They are so delicious and each of them has its special taste and mood. I felt in love with CoastalBlue's food. Our cooks are so professional and hardworkers! Though I have had eaten many good meals in my life, there was one memorable meal that still makes my mouth water. It's was about a month ago a friend of mind tell me about a Mexican restaurant that is located in Destin common. They served the best white rice, and chill chicken with pink pea on the side this is the first time I am having chill chicken and pink pea on it was the best.
My favourite food here is fast food, but the thing I really like the most is juice half and half. My first day at the pool all my co-workers ordered food and they said that we should order half and half. When delivery came they brought us 4 big cans filled with juice. In my country we don't have anything that big. I was really excited and ready to try that orange liquid, and it was good as they said. Sweet and cold drink in what it seems bottomless can was something that I instantly fell in love with. Ever since then my favourite thing to drink here is half and half from Kenny's.
Muffin

The best part of it, that even leaving US for now I still be able to enjoy all of these goodies right on my kitchen counter because it's so easy to make. Well except Taco Bell, if you know what I mean:)

The kindest person I've met since I've arrived in the US is a security officer that works in the area that I work. The security officer showed me around and and tell me what places I can go if I need to shop, dine out or just to go have fun

So he often sends me back to home. Especially when I finished my work late or I got too much work in the day, he waited for me until I finished working and sent me back. And many times he bought lunch for treating all housekeepers.

She helped me to manage the stress I sometimes faced while working, she's been always eager to help me discover something in America. Pastor Kai is so happy to see me participating in mass at local United Mathodist Church. He made me feel like someone very dear to their community and suggested me hepl of any kind.
All the people were really kind to me. I remember that every time when I asked somebody to help me, people were so nice and ready to snow me the right direction, help with bus schedule and so on. But I still think that the best support I got from my best friend and she's the most kind person ever
The nicest person here is a friend of mine, who I met here. We live together and I have the luck he to be my manager at work. He won a green card before 3 years and just here he is helping to every j1 students with everything
As an associate at Walmart in Destin Florida.. I've encountered both good and bad experiences. However, Miss Rebecca, Co Manager of Walmart has been the kindest person to me thus far. She has a mind no one else does. It doesn't matter what situation I got in she was always there to give a helping hand or comforting words. She has been kind in so many ways but one of the experience I want to share is when my schedule wasn't right. Like I only had 20 hours and when no one else wanted to fix it I went to her and she did the best she could. And I appreciate her for doing it and everything else she has done for me.
Silvia is the kindest person in the U.S. for me. She is a housekeeping assistant manager. She always talks with me about life in Sioux falls, and take care very well. She asks me almost every day that "Are you Okay? if not okay you can tell me, I will help you". When she has the party at her home she will take me to her party. I think she is my mother in the U.S.
